The Annie Jeffrey Wellness Center was first established in 1988 with a vision of a healthy lifestyle for the Polk County area. At that time, the available equipment included one treadmill, one bike, and a rowing machine,all of which were donated to the Center.
The room occupied by the exercise equipment was previously utilized as a four-bed men’s’ ward. Since that time, the Wellness Center has undergone constant change. Two new treadmills were purchased in 1991 with a grant awarded to Annie Jeffrey. Then in the spring of 1993, the Center was expanded into the adjacent private room and weight equipment was added. This was made possible with a donation from an anonymous donor. In 1999, the Polk County Foundation made a donation that allowed the purchase of new equipment and funded the remodeling to provide additional room.
In 2007 a $5,000,000 addition was added to the Annie Jeffrey Health Center that included space for a new Wellness Center. The new Center is conveniently located next to Physical Therapy to allow easier access for those patients utilizing the equipment as a part of their therapy prescription. A new treadmill, two NuStep recumbent steppers, an elliptical machine, and all new weight equipment have been added by a generous donation from East Central Nebraska Therapy Associates. The Center now houses a total of four treadmills, two Airdyne bikes, a Pro II recumbent bicycle, a stepper, an elliptical machine, and two NuStep steppers for aerobic exercise. A chest press, rower, leg extension and flexion, hip sled, and Smith press are also present in the weight room.
The Wellness Center is open from 5am – 10pm daily. Fees for membership are affordable with different plans available to allow as many as possible to utilize the Center. Discounted group and corporate memberships are also available.
