Effective January 1, 2019, hospitals are required by law to make information available about standard charges for the items and services provided. Hospital pricing and medical billing can be complicated. While patients can find hospital charges for different kinds of medical services, most healthcare consumers never pay these rates. Actual amounts paid vary from one case to another.
Your total charges for your services while in our care may be higher or lower than an average patient based on factors like:
- The length of your hospital recovery
- The difficulty of the surgery or procedure
- The types of medication required
- Any complications that required additional treatment or care
- Other pre-existing conditions you have that may affect your treatment plan
Price transparency is a term used in healthcare and by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as a rule that requires hospitals to provide prices for standard charges. This rule requires hospitals to make prices available to their consumers so they can make more informed healthcare decisions.
